Independent Study

Students who are required to begin or continue a course of study (such as math or a foreign language) to fulfill their sending school's requirements, may do so online or with a tutor on campus.

Due to the intensive nature of the Woolman Semester, we do not recommend taking an independent study course unless it is absolutely necessary for you to graduate on schedule or fulfill college entrance requirements. Instead, we recommend that students consider taking a community college course during the summer or a semester when they'll be at home. A one-semester community college course yields a full year of high school credit and shows colleges a desire to challenge oneself and do college level work; it is essentially the same as taking an AP course in high school. We have only one independent study period scheduled each week so students need to choose a maximum of one course to complete during their time on campus. Each student must work with their sending school to determine text and coursework (online or tutorial) in order to facilitate a smooth integration of coursework.
